Yet Another London Hotel Opening – One Aldwych

Is there no end?  Here we go!

Former home to The Morning Post, the triangular building  (that houses One Aldwych) dates back to 1907 when it was designed by Mewès and Davis, the same architects behind The Ritz hotels in London and Paris. Now, the hotel, which first opened in 1998, is giving this landmark structure a new lease of life, pairing its original architectural features and specially curated art collection with fresh modern design.

And the decor?

The hotel’s interiors have been redesigned by Tom Strother and Steven Saunders of Fabled Studio, the design firm behind high profile London projects such as Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. The high-ceilinged lobby has been transformed into a cocktail bar and lounge where ceiling-height arched windows overlook the Strand, and Art Nouveau details now come paired with black and white marble floors and modern furnishings in grey and burnt orange.

And the creature comforts?

The entire hotel benefits from a fresh new look, from its guests-only Lounge at One and 30-seat screening room, to its health club with 59ft pool and spa.

Here is an endorsement from a satisfied client.  BTW, the afternoon tea is apparently amazing.

Is there a downside ? That depends, I suppose on your appetite for the Covent Garden area. It bustles. That would be a minus for me. Bu it is a minor one in light of the rather obvious pleasures that One Alwych has on offer.

So I add this to my rather long list of places in London that I simply must try. Will I ever get to all of these places? No Will I enjoy trying? Yes.
