Everything You Need to Know about Perovskite, But Didn’t Know Who to Ask

Why Perovskite? Because it is lighter than silicon wafer solar panel material, and it is cheaper to make. Cheaper? Check this out

“The scientists stated that this process may enable the manufacturing of perovskite modules at a cost of around $0.25 per square foot. This would compare to around $2.50 per square foot needed to produce a crystalline silicon panel.”

And there is more. It potentially can stack to provide 40% efficiency (silicon will peak out at around 32%). It’s main drawback — durability.

Having said that, not all uses require durability. And research will likely provide us with sufficiently durable perovskite solar soon enough. So, it may pay to track how this material is coming to market.
