The upcoming NBA season is wide open. The defending champs – the Raptors – are not likely to make it back to the finals. Their finals opponent from last year, the Warriors may not either. There are new contenders . – the Clippers, the Lakers — and the Sixers. And there are other teams that are close, the Bucks may lead that pack.
I would argue that of all the above teams, the Sixers are the most interesting. The reason is that they are employing a new style of play. They are fielding a HUGE team that is designed to overpower their opponents with defense and ball movement.
Joel Embiid and Al Horford will man the frontcourt. Two natural centers who, at 7-foot-2 and 6-foot-10, have the versatility to partner up. Ben Simmons is a 6-foot-10 ‘point guard’. Tobias Harris is a sturdy 6-foot-9. Josh Richardson, the smallest link, is an elite on-ball defender at 6-foot-6.
You read that right – Josh Richardson will be the smallest starter on the Sixers side. And dig this
The Sixers will throw a constant mix of length, athleticism and versatility at their opponents. Only two players on the active roster — Raul Neto and Trey Burke — have wingspans below 6-foot-10. Two out of 15.
You might want to read that again. That means the Sixers will clog passing lanes like nobody’s business. They will get steals. They will rebound and they will run (with Simmons leading the charge).
I think this will be amazing to watch. And I think you should tune in too!
Go for it!
