The latest news from Trumpistan is annoying. Not just because it is so unbelievably stupid. It is also annoying because it brings into the news the names of people that are impossible for Americans to prnounce.
First there is the lawyer – Natalia Veselnitskaya. That is bad enough. Now we find out that aside from Natalia and her translator, there was a mysterious other Russian dude there. His name is Ranit Akhmetshin. Please! No more impossible names!
We have heard that Natalia is well connected in Moscow. Indeed, she was advertised by Mr. Goldstone to Donald Jr. as fronting for the government. So who is this Ranit dude? And why was he there? Just passing by?
It is said that he also has connection to Russian intelligence. Ranit says that was a long time ago. Right. So if so, again, WTF was he doing there?
And here is a weird thing. The two Russians came to the meeting together. So you would think that they were on the same page about what happened. Wrong. Ranitsays that Natalia left a folder of documents for Trump Jr.
Ranit Akhmetshin, a Russian American lobbyist and former Soviet counterintelligence officer, told The Associated Press on Friday he took part in the meeting on June 9, 2016, along with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. Akhmetshin said Veselnitskaya brought a folder full of documents, which he said she left behind after the meeting.
That is news. It is strange news because Natalia says this
In an interview with NBC News this week, Veselnitskaya specifically addressed ― then ruled out ― any possibility that she provided Trump Jr. with records about DNC finances.
Trump Jr. “clearly asked me if I had any financial records to back and support the idea that some funds from illegal sources went to DNC, went to Hilary Clinton,” Veselnitskaya said. “In reply to that, I told him that not only I don’t have any financial records of that time — there was no chance that I could somehow, anyhow, have such records.”
Hmmmm … we are expected to believe that big shot Natalia came to the meeting totally unprepared to offer anything — despite Goldstone’s big build up? If so, where did Goldstone get his info? And if not, just what was in that folder that she left behind?
We just may get to the bottom of this.
