Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
That is the mentality in the republican controlled House of Representatives. They promised to repeal Obamacare and replace it with something better. They tried and failed miserably. They will try again today to pass a bill that would go to the senate.
Why do I call this a fraud? Because there is a simple reason why the republicans failed to pass a bill to replace Obamacare. There is no way that they can spend less money to offer better health insurance coverage and cover pre-existing conditions. It is not possible. But that is what they have promised to do. Making things more complicated, the republicans are split between hawks who insist on no new spending and moderates who want coverage for pre-existing conditions. To satisfy all, they have produced a bill that is all smoke and mirrors – and now health care policy. The Vox headline is
House Republicans are Charging Ahead with a Dishonest, Reckless Health Care Plan
They know that. But if the do not pass a bill, they are sitting ducks in the 2018 election for having failed to deliver on campaign promises. If the do pass a bill, and the senate goes along with it, they will be damned for making a mess out of health care law. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
So they are hoping that the senate will kill the bill before it gets to Trump. They can then blame the senate for doing nothing and hope that no one pays attention to the details.
But in this day and age, can they get away with this type of fraud?
