The first half of this NBA season has made one thing abundantly clear. Joel Embiid is a MONSTER prospect for the Sixers. As he goes, so goes the team. When Ben Simmons joins him on the court, the Sixers are locked into developing these two young talents. Nothing else is as important. Including the development of Jahlil Okafor.
And there is no doubt that young Okafor needs time to develop, especially on the defensive end of the court. At present, he is a disaster. With work he can improve to mediocre. That is a pivotal improvement, because Jah can score in the paint as few others can. In other words, if given some time, he could be a significant addition to a team. He will not get that time in Philly.
So Philly will trade him. But where? Smallwood suggests three possible deals. To the Celtics for Brown, to the Lakers for Clarkson or to the Bulls for McDermott. Interesting.
Let’s see how this plays out.
BTW, the Sixers might also trade Jah for a future draft pick. That fits into Michael levin’s dream off season deal set. for the Sixers to make the playoffs next year. Something that now seems doable.
