London: The floating Cinema

yet another reason to visit London this summer (from The Londonist)

ondon’s Floating Cinema is back for the summer, languidly pootling between moorings in Three Mills in Bow and Granary Square in Kings Cross, taking in Hackney and Clapton en route.

More than just a cinema, the vessel hosts workshops, family fun, talks, artist and science discussions, live music and arts events as well as film screenings.

This summer’s programme is called Extra-Terrestrial London and promises to be, ahem, out of this world. As well as fantastical creatures from outer space, the events also explore contemporary issues surrounding earth’s sustainability, the commodification of space and what it means to be ‘alien’.

This year, the Floating Cinema offers two Open Air Weekenders. Others on Earth (21-23 Aug) takes place in Bow and gets you ready for that moment when aliens invade. Humans in Space (17-20 Sept) features sci-fi classics alongside talks and artist installations exploring the race for planet colonization, cosmic utopias and future intergalactic worlds.
